Potty training a Chihuahua can be fun for both you and your chihuahua. You can quickly and effectively potty train your chihuahua with the help of a few tips and tricks. As with most breeds of dogs, the art of potty training can take time and patience, this is especially true for the stubborn chihuahuas. The best advice I can give you is to start the chihuahua potty training as early as possible. Some people recommend starting chihuahua potty training at 7 weeks old, others say wait at least three months.

Chihuahua potty training should include some type of crate. Make sure your Chihuahua's crate is small. Chihuahuas instinctively want to keep their beds clean. Because of this, keep your chihuahua in a crate or during the evening hours. They will be forced to hold in their pee and poop until the morning, when you can take them out. It is good chihuahua potty training practice to take your Chihuahua out to eliminate waste before you put him/her into the kennel for the evening. When you wake up in the morning take the chihuahua out, please try to make it the same time

It is very important to be consistent when potty training a chihuahua. Again, take your chihuahua out in the evenings and mornings around the same time, so the chihuahua knows what to do. By staying consistent and letting your dog out at these times, your chihuahua will soon learn what is expected.

Praise and positive reinforcement is very important when potty training a chihuahua. A belly rub, kiss or treat communicates to the chihuahua that it did a great job. After a while your chihuahua will want to do a good job to make you happy.

During the chihuahua potty training, it is vital to have a lot of patience. The chihuahua is just a dog, and accidents are going to happen. When it makes an accident, do not yell or beat the chihuahua. In a stern voice say "no" or "bad", and put the chihuahua outside.
