Chihuahua Litter Box Training

First off, Happy Holidays to all!

Potty training chihuahuas has become a hot topic of conversation recently via emails. I am not sure why exactly, perhaps a lot of people recently got chihuahuas right before or during the Thanksgiving holiday. We got our most recent chihuahua a few days before Thanksgiving a few years ago.

I received an email from a gentleman who told me about the success he had litter box training his chihuahua. I had heard of people that have attempted dog litter box training in the past and have had mixed success. Apparently he found a system that worked for his dog. He was so excited about his success that he setup a blog on blogger (and used my template :)) to help people that are interested in dog litter box training. He is still working on the content, so check back with him every once in a while.

To be honest I have little to no knowledge about litter box training a dog. I know it involves a litter box and special pellets for dogs. It is not a good idea to use the pellets that are used for cat litter boxes. Others have used shredded newspapers and pee pads in the dog litter boxes.

Chihuahuas and Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a time for celebrations and gatherings with family and closest of friends . And this, of course, includes the chihuahua family members as well.  Our two little chihuahuas are always a part of the Thanksgiving Day festivities, which starts with special baths, grooming, bows and sometimes the festive holiday sweater.

Our chihuahuas are a big part of our family unit and as we are thankful for those closest to us, we cannot forget them too. Of course, expressing our thankfulness to our dogs should only go so far as sometimes less is more when it comes to their safety. With all the hustle and bustle of decorating and preparing a huge dinner for the holiday, we need to be reminded of the things we need to be cautious of such as keeping foods out of reach that may be dangerous to our pets.  That also applies to the jovial holiday decorations and candles that could be harmful as well.

For chihuahua owners, keep all toxic and dangerous foods, candles and decorations way out of reach from your canine family member.

It is a hectic busy time with food, fun and tons of company. The pets tend to be overlooked amid all the stress and tension of the day in the midst of celebrating. Be prepared before the guests arrive so that it can be a happy and healthy celebration for all, including the precious four-legged family members.
